Our client are an innovative, highly specialised startup surgical technology firm who are looking for an experienced software engineer to join their R&D team.

The company is developing single visualisation software for minimal invasive surgery, and due to the development of the firm have the necessity for a computer vision scientist to work alongside their existing software engineer in the research and development of real-time image processing algorithms for surgical applications.

Location

Nottingham office - to include working from home

Key Duties
You will be responsible for researching, developing, and implementing the image processing algorithms that run on the company's laparoscopic visualisation platform.

The key responsibilities of this role will include:

* Develop and optimise existing image processing algorithms, both in terms of
user-perceived visual performance, and execution speed.
* Demonstrate creativity in proposing, researching and developing innovative new
algorithms that may have relevance to the platform.
* Delivering high-quality code, according to specifications.
* Delivering high-quality design documentation according to medical software standards
* Performing tests, code reviews, and other quality assurance tasks.
* Fast prototyping in support of proof-of-principle activities

Key Skills, Qualifications and Client Requirements

Essential Skills

* Hold a masters degree, or - preferably - PhD in a relevant subject such as computer science, in the field of image processing.
* Demonstratable experience of developing real-time computer vision algorithms.
* Demonstratable experience of implementing computer vision algorithms on a GPU using OpenCL and/or CUDA.

Desirable Skills

* Experience of optimising algorithms for speed; both design and implementation.
* Excellent programming skills, to include both Matlab & C/C++.
* Experience of camera calibration and 3D reconstruction.
* An understanding of the requirements of working within ISO 13485 and IEC 62304, and preparing associated documentation (risk management ISO14971, design and development procedures, change control, etc.)
* Excellent presentation and communication skills, particularly when communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
* Ability to self-motivate and excellent self-discipline when working independently; prioritise tasks and work effectively to manage and meet deadlines.
* Willingness to provide constructive input into R&D strategy & planning meetings.
* Excellent project management and time planning demonstrable skills
* A basic knowledge of clinical and/or biomedical engineering.
* Fluent in English.
