OBSTETRICIAN & GYNAECOLOGIST
(12 MONTHS FIXED TERM PARENTAL LEAVE COVERAGE – MARCH 2020 to MARCH 2021)
ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting 12-month fixed term opportunity to provide parental leave coverage has become available for an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in a seaside New Zealand community. You will be welcomed by three other O&G specialists and would be expected to hit the ground running in a small but supportive team.
There are approximately 700 births per year at Hauora Tairāwhiti with most deliveries being performed by Midwives. Obstetricians act as consultants on the maternity ward and run the antenatal clinic for high-risk women. It is expected the applicant will demonstrate clinical expertise in the management of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care of obstetric patients with moderate levels of complexity including medical complications, abnormal labours, operative deliveries, twin vaginal births, vaginal birth after caesarean and preferably breech vaginal birth.
Gynaecology services are located within the Hospitals Women’s Health Clinic, which services the Tairawhiti region. Appointments at the colposcopy and gynaecology clinics are normally arranged by a GP or via Hospital Referral. Operating room sessions are scheduled for gynaecologic surgery as indicated
The on-call commitment is one 24-hour call per week, one weekend per month, covering Maternity, Emergency Department gynaecology patients if requested, and gynaecology inpatients. If a member of the team is on vacation their colleagues cover in their absence.
We are ideally looking to hear from candidates with the following qualifications:
• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
• Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
• Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
• Certificate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Certificate of the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
These qualifications will allow you to register with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and work as a specialist in New Zealand for a 12-month period. Hauora Tairawhiti will provide assistance and support with the MCNZ registration process.

• Broad clinical experience
• The ability to make informed decisions in a high risk and rural environment
