ABOUT THE ROLE
Radiologists at Hauora Tairāwhiti make a difference in a small community, staff a modern
radiology department, see unbelievable pathology, value quality over profits, and have a great
work-life balance.

The radiology service at Hauora Tairāwhiti is a small, dynamic team looking to employ a suitability
qualified Radiologist. This role will work collaboratively and cohesively with the radiology team to
provide effective services for the Tairāwhiti region.

Applicants are expected to have a general scope of radiologist skills including ultrasound, MRI and
CT. The Department is hospital based and provides a mix of inpatient, emergency and outpatient
imaging for a community of approximately 47,000 people. Time is split with 70% clinical
responsibilities and 30% non-clinical. It is expected that you will also participate in the on call
roster which is currently an ‘at home call’ one in four nights.

Day to day responsibilities include interpreting exams, triaging and protocoling imaging requests,
consulting with referring clinicians, and supporting the radiology technology staff. Light
intervention and mammography are optional. There are opportunities to teach local medical and
surgical house officers as well as radiology registrars within the Midlands Region.

We are looking to receive applications from people who are keen to work in a partnership with
our Head of Department and other team members to develop new imaging services and work on
continuous improvement within our Radiology Department.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a new era at Gisborne hospital with
the announcement of a state-of-the-art medical imaging research centre to be based at the hospital.
The Matai Medical Research Institute centre will focus on mild traumatic brain injury and heart disease
that could make Gisborne a world-leading centre in MRI.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The department offers a wide range of state of the art imaging including Coronary CTA, CT
colonography, Cardiac and Body MRI (including liver, renal, prostate, ano-rectal, and pelvic MRI),
MRI arthrography, CTA (neurovascular, cardiothoracic, and peripheral), vascular US, obstetrical
US, dual energy CT, and light interventional work (US and CT guided joint and spine injections,
image guided biopsies, and percutaneous drainages). Unlike other DHBs we also perform MSK
MRI for ACC and are one of the few small district health boards to have an onsite MRI scanner.

The radiology department uses Philips RIS/PACS which is integrated with the other DHBs in the
Midlands region. Our equipment includes Siemens Flash CT, Phillips Ingenia 1.5T MRI, Philips
EPIQ 7G Ultrasound, Digital General X-ray (DR), and Digital Mammography .

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
(MCNZ)
• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) would
be favourable for New Zealand or Australian radiologists but non-essential for other foreign
applicants.
