Band 5 Occupational Therapist to work at a Centre for Adolescent Mental Health.

The successful OT will be working on an in-patient unit for young people aged between 12-18 years with acute mental health problems and complex mental health needs.

The unit is comprised of a twelve bedded Acute in-patient ward, a sixteen bedded Psychiatric intensive care unit and six places in the Day service.

This post would suit an Occupational Therapist who has a special interest in working in the mental health field and enjoys working with young people. This post offers you the opportunity to use your imagination and creativity to really help make a difference to the lives of young people.

Key responsibilities -
- Take responsibility for managing a client caseload, prioritising as appropriate.
- To plan, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic groups alongside the Occupational Therapy Technicians.
- To oversee the Group Therapeutic timetable for the young people at the unit.
- Undertake holistic client-centred occupational therapy assessments using appropriate Occupational Therapy models of practice and assessment tools working as an autonomous practitioner.
- Plan occupational therapy interventions and rehabilitation programmes using a goal oriented approach.
- Monitor and evaluate progress and adapt therapy interventions as appropriate
- Establish effective communication with clients and formal /informal carers, passing on accurate and appropriately worded information regarding interventions and possible outcomes.
- Liaise with members of the multidisciplinary team and others to ensure effective implementation of the client's ongoing treatment and management.
- To communicate assessment information, treatment plans and clinical decisions to young people, families and professionals.
- Support, advise and provide education and training for clients, formal/informal carers and staff.
- To effectively work alongside the Nursing team, education and multi-disciplinary teams to implement the individual timetables.
- Maintain accurate client documentation working to the agreed format and standards for the rotation area, and to complete discharge information in a timely manner. This will involve use of a patient database in some rotations.

Other Duties -
- Participate in regular supervision and take part in the Occupational Therapy appraisal scheme and preceptorship scheme for first year of practice.
- Participate in team meetings, ward rounds, and training.
- Monitor the levels of stock and equipment required for departmental needs and report to senior Occupational Therapists/administrators.
- Adhere to Trust, service and College of Occupational Therapy professional standards policies and procedures.
- Collect and collate statistical information relating to client activity.

This role goes through a Direct Engagement System, which means PAYE Payments on a weekly basis. The rate would be £17.46 per hour (£30K per annum).

It is a full-time post which involves early and evening shifts, 8:30am - 4:30pm and 12:00pm - 8:00pm.

The post requires an ASAP start - ideally from Monday 8th April and will be reviewed on a monthly basis.
