Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dunedin Hospital, New Zealand

• Permanent, part-time 0.8 FTE

Southern DHB has an opportunity at Dunedin Hospital for a Consultant Ophthalmologist to live and work in a part of the world renowned for its lifestyle and work/life balance.

Dunedin Hospital is a 350 bed tertiary hospital with close links to the University of Otago, one of New Zealand’s leading research institutes. You will be enthusiastic about teaching and passing your knowledge to junior members of staff as Southern DHB is affiliated with the Otago Medical School and Dunedin Hospital provides training to Registrars from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

This is an exciting time for Ophthalmology service delivery with the models of care being reviewed to meet demand and innovative models of care being explored. This role is primarily based in Dunedin but some travel across the Southern District is expected. You will be expected to participate in the on-call roster, routine ophthalmology clinics, theatre and some outreach clinics. We would be keen to hear from you whatever your experience or subspecialty, although a preference would be given to those with experience or an interest in Glaucoma or Medical Retina.

Dunedin is a vibrant University city, with a big town feel and well-known for its southern hospitality providing you with a great place to live and work. The surrounding districts include Fiordland and Central Otago and these beautiful places are easily accessible from Dunedin. The Dunedin and Otago lifestyle offers a range of outdoor recreation opportunities and cultural activities that offer something for everyone. The Southern region offers affordable living, great schools and a relaxed way of life with no traffic jams in sight.

You must have completed your specialist training and be eligible or already hold vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Candidates from outside of NZ are encouraged to apply and we are happy to answer your questions about coming to live and work with Southern DHB.

Closing date: Tuesday 22 May 2018.
