Job description:

To provide specialist occupational therapy interventions using evidence based, flexible and patient-centred approach, working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to meet the rehabilitation needs of people who are referred to our services.

To assist senior staff in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the Rehabilitation service.

To work in a collaborative manner, including education or training with other agencies, such as social services, GP's, care managers and voluntary organisations to ensure a seamless health care delivery for patients

To take on the Lead Professional role and the Trusted Assessor role.

To provide clinical supervision, line management and training to junior and assistant staff as appropriate and to students on clinical placements.

To participate in clinical governance activity, including CPD and developing and implementing quality improvements and audit activity to further own and team practice.

As a Specialist OT, the post holder will be a source of knowledge and expertise for patients, relatives and colleagues of all disciplines.

Essential requirements:

Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy

Current Health Professions Council Registration

Relevant post graduate training

Appropriate post graduate experience within the NHS including physical rehabilitation, care of the elderly, falls, orthopaedics and neurology.

Experience of supervising junior staff.

Understanding of splinting in patients with neurological conditions and postural management.

Experience of using clinical governance frameworks to monitor and improve quality of patient care

Knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and treatment in field of physical rehabilitation utilising a range of approaches and use of outcome measures.

Knowledge of the evidence base of intermediate care or community rehabilitation relating to falls, orthopaedic, cognitive, neurological and general conditions.

Good understanding of community services which can support patients on discharge

Knowledge of the influence of psychosocial and cultural factors of health/illness behaviours

Sound understanding of confidentiality
Ability to problem solve and prioritise workload

To remain updated with professional practice and research and integrate this into daily patient management

Ability to pass on knowledge and skills to others in formal and informal environments

Ability to effectively and flexibly adapt communication style to the needs of the patients and staff

Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety to meet differing patient needs.

Ability to work collaboratively within a MDT team, participate in the preparation of reports, resilience and ability to cope with working in a demanding environment

To have a professional attitude and approach at all times

Good IT and computer skills including use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Current and valid UK driving license
