Main Job Objectives
Leadership & Development
1. Developing the Regional Nursing team to ensure the highest possible standard of car3e is achieved, providing effective quality services for General Me4dical and Occupational Health Services to Defence Primary Healthcare.
2. Act as a resource for nursing staff in professional issues and development opportunities, providing professional advice and leadership across the clinical areas within the Region.
3. Contribute with development of initiatives in response to national and local policies, advising Regional Clinical Director (RCD) on changes in legislation or policy with regards to all aspects of Primary Nursing Care.
4. Demonstrate skill at interpreting complex clinical information / data, anticipating potential problems, taking action to prevent / minimise these, responding to any changes promptly and effectively and developing specialised plans of care, developing relevant protocols.
5. In support of the RCD and the Ops Manager, develop Health Needs Analysis for the military population and families ensuring adequate health services are commissioned in line with the NHS standards.
6. Act as the Regional lead for Nurse Revalidation, support by the SO3 Training.
7. Work in support of the SO2 Healthcare Governance to support integration of Healthcare Governance Principles within the practices around Clinical Effectiveness, Improving Quality Care and Professional Development.
8. Work in support of the Area Managers and Regional Warrant Officer to promote best practice in Health & Safety and Security, assessing risk and using results to improve practice.
9. Initiate and participate in audits in own specialist areas and develop culture of quality improvement and assurance through audit and sharing best practice within the Region.
10. Create an environment that encourages internal clinical development and training including evidence of the clinical supervision process for nursing staff. Act as Clinical Supervisor / Mentor to Independent Prescribers and those in training.

B. STANDARDS TO WHICH A REGISTERED NURSE MUST COMPLY WHEN PROVIDING THE SERVICE

11. To comply with the regulatory standards set out by the Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code of Conduct.
12. To comply with Joint Service Publications (JSP) 950 Medical Policy.

C. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

13. Registered Nurse First Level with live registration with the NMC.
14. Additional Post registration qualifications in primary care / community to degree level or equivalent level of knowledge supplemented by short courses to masters' level or equivalent.
15. Significant previous experience in a relevant senior nursing role at Band 7 or above.
16. Evide4nce of recent leadership skills.
17. Is able to demonstrate practical and up to date knowledge of competency in all aspects of primary healthcare nursing.
18. Experience in leading projects and service improvement.

D. DESIREABLE REQUIRMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

19. Post Graduate Qualification (or working towards one) in Health Care Leadership / Management
20. Experience in relevant areas e.g. Clinical Supervision, Mentorship, Teaching skills.
21. Current relevant understanding of Military and NHS policies.
22. A sound understanding of the nursing agenda.
