General Duties and responsibilities:

- Consultation on the diagnosis and management of infection and infectious diseases in the hospitals and local community.
- Day to day supervision of clinical and scientific diagnostic methods and examination of specimens and authorisation and interpretation of the results obtained.
- Involvement in the management of individual patients through clinical liaison and ward based activity
- Provision of an “On-Call” service in Infection/Microbiology and Infection Control.
- To lead on infection control issues Hospital Infection Control Committee.
- To support and advise on Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) in all infection control issues
- Opportunities for involvement in the provision of clinical infectious diseases services, dependant upon the candidate’s interests, on a rotational basis.
- Responsibility for achieving and maintaining full accreditation of the laboratory with Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Limited.
- To participate in the teaching, supervision and development of junior medical and non-medical staff in the department and staff appraisal.

Person Specification

- MBBS or Equivalent
- Full/Specialist GMC registration with a licence to practise (or eligible for GMC Registration)
- FRCPath or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of continuous experience in Microbiology
- Consultant level experience
- Leadership and Management skills

- Efficiency in Teamwork and superior communication skills
