NATIONAL LOCUMS ARE SEEKING A SPR DOCTRO FOR NEPHROLOGY WITHIN A WELL RUN AND FRIENDLY HOSPITAL BASED IN LIVERPOOL.

ST3+ Locum in Nephrology
Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital was opened in 1978 and is the main teaching hospital in the Mersey Region for the University of Liverpool and merged with Broadgreen Hospital in 1995. The Trust is at present going through the process of application to achieve Foundation Trust status. It has obtained approval for a new hospital at the present site from Department of Health and Liverpool City Council. The building work has begun with completion expected in 2017. There is also a planned development of an adjacent biomedical campus.

Currently the Trust contains over 700 beds and provides a comprehensive variety of clinical services in most of the main medical and surgical specialities. Many of these departments in addition to offering a district general hospital service to the local community also provide a service of tertiary referral both within and outside the Mersey Region. There are close ties with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Liverpool. The clinical academic departments of the Faculty are on the same site as the hospital.

This is a 12 month locum post.

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital Renal Unit supports over 460 dialysis patients including 60 PD patients and just under 1000 transplant patients. Approximately 100 new transplants are performed annually and the Transplant Unit has an active laparoscopic live donor programme and an ABO incompatible programme. At the Royal Liverpool University Hospital there is a Renal High Dependency Unit (five beds), a CAPD/APD unit (four beds) and 23 inpatient beds for both general nephrology and in support of the dialysis population. There is a well designed new day case / short stay nephrology ward with 6 stations and an 8 bedded renal transplant admissions unit. Our home haemodialysis programme has grown considerably over the years and at present we have 35 patients on the programme with 3 being trained at present. All aspects of investigational nephrology are catered for with onsite histopathology, urology and interventional radiology. There are excellent links with the University Department of Medicine where a successful nephrology clinical research programme is based.
