Medacs Healthcare is currently looking for a Specialist Registrar in Paediatrics to work at a large NHS Trust based in Essex.

Grade: SpR in Paediatrics
Contract type: Full time/Fixed term
Contract length: 12 months
Remuneration: £30,302 - £47,647 basic salary plus 50% banding for additional oncalls

The general paediatric registrar is responsible for inpatient general paediatric care. A typical day consists of a multi-disciplinary hand over from 8.30 to 9.30 followed by daily consultant led ward round. Registrars are expected to co-ordinate different aspects of multi-disciplinary patient care including helping junior trainees. There is a wealth of clinical cases. The work is varied and experience will be gained in acute and general paediatrics, the management of patients with sickle cell disease, Cystic Fibrosis, shared care oncology , gastroenterology, cardiology and as well as paediatric safeguarding work.
The specialist registrar would be expected to both lead and accompany the attending consultant on the regular daily ward round in co-operation with nursing staff and SHO’s.
Duties include:
 Liaison with nursing staff, parents, medical and support services
 Supervision of ward work and record keeping by SHO’s
 Liaison with the attending general paediatric consultant
 Systematic “handover” of patients and their problems to fellow registrars at shift changes
 Participation in general paediatric clinics
 Liaison with tertiary units for shared care patients
 Attendance and participation with joint medical meetings and training
 Medical student and SHO teaching

Neonatal Duties
The neonatal registrar is expected to acquire the skills to manage the ill term newborn and premature infant. Duties are broad but well defined and include support and teaching of junior medical staff, cooperation with nursing staff, liaison with labour ward and obstetric colleagues and communication with the attending neonatal consultant
