We are currently seeking experienced Consultant Histopathologists for placement in a successful NHS Trust situated in Cumbria. This will be for a permanent placement either for full time or part time depending on your availability.

Not only will you be working in one of the top 10% NHS Trusts in the Country, Cumbria is also known as an area of great beauty, surrounded by many clear lakes and magical mountains. There are many villages and country pubs to visit and there are excellent transport links to ensure a safe smooth journey to work. The hospital has also recently gone through a £90 million redevelopment and you will have access to the latest state of the art facilities.

The Histopathalogy department supports many NHS screening programmes such as cervical, breast and bowel cancer. The department also has full CPA accreditation and has recently ungergone inspection under UKAS/ISO 15189 standards. Both mortuaries and Histology are licensed with the Human Tissue Authority.

Core duties would include:

* Work together with existing consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective histopathology service to all patients.

* Surgical Pathology: Undertake routine case reporting, including intraoperative diagnosis, develop subspecialist interest in two or more tumour sites to support MDM work and facilitate transition to subspecialty reporting if required.

* Cytopathology: Undertake routine case reporting of non-gynaecological cytopathology. If appropriate, support one stop clinics; time spent taking FNAs, attending 'one stop' outpatient clinics and attending radiologically guided FNA clinics would be identified as fixed DCC sessions in the job plan. There is no requirement for gynaecological cytopathology.

* Anatomical Pathology: Support hospital and primary care adult post mortem work and if the appointee has specific expertise and interest, perinatal autopsy.
