Job Description

Junior Sister/Charge Nurse specialising in Surgical Oncology - private patient ward. The role of the is to lead by example, strive for excellence, provide effective staff supervision and expertise to assess, plan, deliver nursing care. This extensive rewarding and yet challenging role allows empathic and caring nursing to utilise the full range of nursing skills from diagnosis support, patient and relative education,  treating all illness related symptoms, medically, physically, emotionally and mentally. It takes expertise and compassion to provide cancer care, you become part of your patient’s journey and no two days are ever the same. Permanent, full time role, although part time hours will be considered. Working long shifts, 13 shifts per month, includes days, nights and weekends,

Duties & Responsibilities

- Provide leadership within the ward ensuring that all staff use evidence based practise and adhere to the NMC code of professional conduct
- Strive to continually improve the ward environment to high standards
- Support and promote the development and implementation of nursing care services that reflect the principles of Clinical Governance
- Support Surgical Oncology ward management with workforce planning and budgetary spend.
- Act as an expert practitioner demonstrating specialist knowledge, skills and expertise within the area of work and within the context of changing health care provision
- Act as a role model and ensure effective staff supervision with clinical practice, working with staff and patients in an advisory, teaching and support capacity and maintaining professional competence, authority and credibility
- Maintain clear documentation regarding patient treatments, care and future plans of care
- Recognise and take appropriate action in emergency situations and react to patient needs
- Prepare for discharge planning, at time of admission ( or whenever appropriate) Instruct junior staff likewise


Skills & Experience

- NMC Registered nurse
- Passionate about patient care with post qualification experience in oncology specialty
- High regard for patient experience and safety
- Nurse in charge/shift leader or working towards management experience
