Job Ref:

Medacs Healthcare is currently looking for Specialty Doctors in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine to work in a large NHS university Health Board based in Wales.

This is an opportunity to join a close-knit and welcoming team of anaesthetists providing anaesthetic services for operating lists, a critical care unit, an emergency department, resuscitation and inter-hospital transfer.

The Anaesthetics department of 12 consultants, 8 specialty doctors and 6 junior anaesthetists provides anaesthesia in a modern suite of 6 theatres and a 10-bedded critical care unit that combines high dependency and intensive care. The surgical specialties served are general surgery, colorectal surgery, orthopaedics and trauma, and gynaecology. The hospital receives emergency medical, surgical and paediatric admissions.

The specialty doctor grade provides anaesthesia for planned surgery and 24 hour cover for emergency theatres and the critical care unit with supervision of the on-call work of a junior anaesthetist. All daytime work is supervised by resident consultants and over-night duties are supervised by non-resident consultants who give advice and attend for complex cases.

Employment contracts are initially for 12 months duration. Doctors who have happily settled with the employer are usually offered a permanent contract after the first 6 months. The rota is designed to provide a good work-life balance and comply with the European Working Time Directive. The standard 10 session salary is between £37,176 and £69,325 per annum dependant on previous experience but our doctors usually accept 11-session contracts and earn approximately 10% more. 1 session per week is set aside for supporting professional activities e.g. Audit and CPD. The department allows time off and financial support for study leave, as well as a minimum of 27 days annual leave, and 8 bank holidays.

- Applicants should have a minimum of four years postgraduate medical experience and have completed at least two years of basic anaesthetic training e.g. UK core training (CT1 & CT2) or an equivalent.
- Ideal candidates will have at least 4 years experience in anaesthesia and critical care medicine and will be currently providing high quality contemporary style anaesthetic services for a broad base of surgical specialties and critical care medicine. Overseas applicants should demonstrate a breadth and depth of experience comparable to that obtainable by contemporaries in the UK.
- Ideal candidates will already have full registration with the GMC and a license to practice without restrictions. Candidates who are clearly eligible to apply for registration with the GMC will also be considered so long as there are no issues likely to unduly delay the process and their appointment.
