Medacs Healthcare is currently looking for a Consultant in Neonatology to work in a large NHS hospital in Scotland.

Hours / PA’s 10PAs per week (Part-time may be considered)
Salary Scale £76,761 - £103,490

The successful applicant will join the existing team of 9 Consultants who work in the Neonatal service and 15 consultants in acute and community Paediatrics. You will have proportionate duties in the Consultant weekly attending rota for NICU, HDU, SCBU and Transitional Care and a 1:10 on call for weekends and may participate in on call rota by agreement with proportional reduction in the resident nights. An outpatient clinic may be incorporated into the post within the limits of available DCC.

The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the further development of Neonatal services in the Trust in line with local service requirement and the National agenda. A specialty interest to complement those of Consultants already in post will be welcomed. Current interests include Cardiology, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and Home Oxygen, Neurodevelopment follow up, Nutrition, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and Medical Education.

The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time.

The main duties and responsibilities of the post will include:

• Contribution to the daytime weekly attending rota for NICU, HDU, SCBU and Transitional Care, during which time other clinical duties will be cancelled.
• Day to day decisions about the clinical management of babies in the unit during their attending week
• Out of hours responsibilities. The out of hours cover 9pm until 9.30am is resident, with 1 junior doctor /ANNP working as first tier grade. There will be another consultant as second non resident on call duty.
• Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues during periods of leave. This will not involve you in the on call or weekend cover.
• Professional ‘on the job’ supervision and training of Junior Medical Staff and ANNP with no named trainee educational responsibility.
• Responsibilities as supervising clinician and clinical supervisors for carrying out teaching, accreditation and examination duties as required as well as for contributing to postgraduate and personal continuing medical education.
• Responsibilities which relate to a special interest as agreed by the Directorate and Trust.
• Requirement to participate in medical audit, continuing medical education and Trust approved research.
• Managerial responsibilities where appropriate and agreed with your clinical Director.
• Participate in the annual consultant appraisal process.
• Additional duties include joint responsibility for guideline development, antenatal counselling and attendance at "obstetric high risk" meetings, and perinatal mortality/morbidity meetings.

Requirements:

• MRCPCH (or equivalent).
• Current full registration with GMC with a licence to practice.
• Inclusion on GMC’s Specialist Register for Neonates or within 6 months of CCT or CESR (CP) at interview.
• Recent and relevant clinical experience and competency in Neonates with wide general experience including experience in Neonates.
• Recent and relevant experience and personal qualities to work in a busy unit dealing with the high turnover of planned and unscheduled admissions.
