Medacs Healthcare is currently looking for a Haematology Consultant to work in a large NHS hospital in South Yorkshire.

Contract type: Full time/Permanent
Contract length: 12 months
Salary scale: £75,249 - £101,451

Together with the current post holders, the Consultant Haematologists will be responsible for providing a comprehensive clinical and laboratory haematology service for the Trust.

Main responsibilities:

1. To provide a Consultant Haematology service for in-patient, out-patient and GP services and, together with colleagues, the proper functioning of the department.

2. The post holder is encouraged to carry out clinical audit and potentially research activities as an inherent part of normal clinical duties. There may also be roles with regard to training medical staff in junior grades and the development of support staff.

3. It will be a requirement of the post to maintain CPD activity (supported by funded study leave) to achieve Royal College compliance with the CPD programme.

4. On a rotational basis the consultant Haematologists will for a 2 year period assume the role of Head of the Laboratory Haematology Department

5. It is anticipated that the postholder will have continuous responsibility for laboratory quality assurance and compliance with hospital transfusion policies and the development of such policies where necessary.

6. To carry out teaching duties as required and, in particular, to take an active part in the education program of trainee medical staff and medical undergraduates from Sheffield University.

7. The postholder will have full continuing clinical responsibility for patients under his/her care and for the provision of treatment relevant to their haematological conditions whilst in the hospital. This may require the provision of advice and assistance to Consultants in other specialities, and proper delegation to and training of trainee medical staff.

8. To participate in a 1 in 4 on call rota including laboratory supervision, clinical liaison and support to the busy clinical Haematology service on an in-patient and outpatient basis. It is anticipated that on-call will be an average of 1 in 4 with 1 in 3 weekends covered 9am-9pm by the specialist registrar.

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice, on specialist register in Haematology
- Appropriate experience and clinical expertise in Haematology
