Consultant Radiologist (General Radiologist) Sub-specialisms are welcome: Breast Radiology and any others that add value to this expanding service.
This is a full time Consultant Radiologist appointment for our NHS hospital trust client based in the London area. Travel to other sites in the trust may occasionally be required, for example to cover MDT, reporting work from all of the trusts sites will be required. The successful doctor will have a broad-based experience and knowledge and he/she will complement other Consultant colleagues in providing a comprehensive range of imaging services. Candidates will be GMC registered with specialist registration.
If the person appointed elects to undertake a part time contract, he / she will be required to devote substantially the whole of his / her professional time to the duties of the post and to give them priority at all times.
Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
The Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive radiology service to the Hospitals NHS Trust, and also to provide reporting services to other sites within the trust. Any successful candidate may be expected to work on other sites within the trust as required.
In addition, he/she will be required to:
Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service
Take part in a consultant rota for emergency duties and to provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of junior medical staff. To be involved in the education of nursing staff, General Practitioners and other clinical professions. To attend regularly Radiology teams meetings and MDT’s, including providing cross cover for the other sites.
Have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department.
Take part in team, department, regional and national audits
Be involved in research where appropriate.
Participate in the management of the Imaging Service as appropriate.
There will be an annual appraisal and job plan review. The job plan is a prospective agreement setting out duties, responsibilities and personal objectives for the year ahead.
This will cover all aspects of a Consultant’s professional practise such as clinical work, teaching commitments, research, education and management duties. All new consultants joining the Trust will be employed under the new Consultant Contract.
A rigid timetable has not been included at this stage however a 10 PA contract will be offered with 8.5 PA for Direct Clinical Care and a minimum of 1.5 SPA for Supporting Professional activities, one of which will be flexible. Job plans will be reviewed annually and allocations of PA and SPA time renegotiated. There will be an expectation to increase SPA activities to enable the Trust objectives to be achieved.
Office accommodation will be provided for the appointee.
All Consultants are required to attend the monthly Directorate Meetings. Post holders will be expected to share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate. As part of the Consultant Team, the consultant will offer mentoring support and lead the existing clinical team through; one-to-one support, individual case management and complex cases, identifying development needs and suggesting CPD (Continuous Professional Development) opportunities and responding to clinical enquiries via e-mail and telephone.
