Responsibilities:
• To ensure that all patients are positioned as detailed by simulation sheet or prescription sheet.
• To ensure all treatments are delivered following either the computerised plan or treatment
• To ensure all treatment sheets are signed by the Radiographer treating the patient.
• To ensure that no treatment is delivered without the prescription sheet being signed by the Radiotherapist.
• Ensure that no treatment is delivered without the prescription being approved and calculated as defined in procedures.
• Radiographers must record all treatments delivered radiographers are required to rotate through the simulator following planning procedures as set by the Consultant and completing all documentation as required for treatment calculation and planning
purposes.
• To be responsible for and take care of all equipment, including auxiliary equipment and to operate such equipment as required in a proper and safe manner.
• To keep abreast in understanding and knowledge of all new developments applicable to the profession.
• To participate in research or audits as required.
• o participate in department rota’s, overtime, emergency service, and weekend duties as required.
• Be conversant with, and observe, radiation safety local rules.
• Observe departmental policy regarding radiological examination of women of reproductive capacity.
• Observe practices that protect themselves and the patient within the Radiotherapy Department.
• Ensure that patient understands the nature of the treatment.
• Assist in the safe transfer and movement of patients under their care.
• If applicable, make notes of any relevant information that may transpire during the course of the patient’s treatment.
• Be conversant with and comply with relevant health and safety legislation.
• Comply with departmental and hospital policies
• Assist in the training of a less experienced radiographer/ new recruit, and provide clinical and practical instructions to that person in order to increase that person’s knowledge and skills.
• Develop good working relations with all categories of staff in order to maintain continuity of care to patients.
Requirements:
• Validated with The Irish Institute of Radiographers
• To hold BSc in Radiation Therapy
• Ideally Hold a Degree in Therapeutic Radiography
• An advantage to have 6 year post graduate experience.
• To deliver safe and accurate Radiation Therapy delivery on a day to day basis
• To supervise students and visitors to the department
